I know- I did some extensions at Point Piper while studying for my Masters at UNSW. The waterfront PP house with boatshed and pool "over" the harbour sold for $16mil about ten years+ ago. A rare Coolong Road duplex I designed the interiors for in Vaucluse sold for a whammer!
Back to Oakleigh. Swarup designed the architecture and wrote the planning report for a Town Planning Permit, as the existing house was heritage listed.
On approval by Monash Council, an application followed for the Building Permit to the Registered Building Surveyor (where planning drawings are detailed for construction with inputs by other consultants like engineers).
Jim was the owner builder. Jim and I are buddies. I just got him Council support for 3 units at Hallam.
Jim did all the research, understood how to correct any discrepancies on site and brought in co operative tradies. It's a full time stressful job.
Ask Lyon ( we got him the Planning and Building Permits). Lyon did his first project about a year back- a dual occupancy in the backyard; as a first time Owner Builder who took control of matters. He hardly called me during his nine month project. His wife had their first child midway too!
He saved $$$ in the build and will make a profit if he sells. Hard work and patience pays.
Jim's family turned an ugly duckling heritage house with a sore backyard to a luxurious extension - with 5 large bedrooms, void over living, media room , a real home office for two / homework or Zoom room, huge laundry with storage galore and discreet drying yard, kids play room, alfresco overlooking the sparkling, fully tiled pool and the master suite- all with super high specs.
